Question / Help Get weird lag or studders when recording gameplay?

Anyone had this issue? I have a pretty good rig with a i5 quadcore 3,4MHz processor and 8 GB RAM and AMD Radeon R9 200 Series and multible SDD Discs and a 144 monitor so i shouldnt really have so much problem recording gameplay. And the game runs smooth, i even turned down some settings to see if it would change anything.

Yeah, it looks like we could have the same issue here, but im so bad at this tech stuff. But i have watched 10-12 Youtubeclips on how to setup youre OBS and so many people say OBS is the best but the product i get from my recordings it looks like i have a 1980´s computer and i think my rig is atleast decent even tho many items are a couple of years.

An I5 doesn't really handle 1080p encoding(with x264) and playing a game very well. You could try the VCE encoder in OBS Studio.

17:21:22.958: Output 'adv_file_output': Number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 22702 (89.9%)
18:01:38.341: Output 'adv_file_output': Number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 30350 (85.7%)
if Im correct this means that 90% of your file is lost due to what Osiris said

Tnx for the answer guys, this is really frustrating, specially when you have some great gameplays. So im kind of a noob at this. I have both Reg OBS and OBS Studio installed. If i as you said start up Studio instead where exactly do i change to VCE encoder?

If its under the Output - Recording Tab and then the "Coder" dropdown i only have these options:
x264
AMD Video Coding Engine H.264 Encoder (Media Foundation)

Is it here i should choose the AMD one instead?

And is an i5 processor really that bad now days? Or is it just the encoding part that messes it up?

Is their a way for me to put up screenshot of my settings here in the thread?

yes this is it - amd vce. encoding will be done by gpu so processor wont be used but quality can be lower if compared to x264 on same settings. encoding can be really demanding, but i think you should be fine with 720p30 encoding at low bitrates like =<3500. worth a try if you want to stream but I cant make promises
little ps: did you try to oveclock your cpu? your model was made for this ;) http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/core-i5-3570k-review,11.html

If you throw enough bitrate at it, you can use VCE just fine. Though if you want to stream, x264 is recommended.

Tnx again guys!

I dont have any plans on streaming on Twitch as of yet, im only recording gameplay to upload on Youtube. If i do the AMC encoder and set my setting to 720p will the quality on Youtube still be good?

And how exactly do i change to 720p? Do i need to set my game to 720p aswell or can i just change something in OBS setting? I saw one option just below the encoder one that says "downscale output" or something (my version is in Swedish), is it here i should set something? Or in another tab/place?

And i dont know/understand what Bitrate is and what it does. Should i set it higher then 3500 or lower? Is quality better if you lower it or viceversa?

no no, when I said 720p it was about cpu encoding. with VCE you can do better. try it and experiment with settings, im not familar with amd cards.bitrate is the amount of data per second used to encode a movie so higher=better
you can play in 1080p and obs will rescale to 720p. take a look into help pages upper right corner, its for older version but setting are generally the same

Sry for beeing little daft here but so i change to AMD encoding for now and nothing else? And then i see if thats good and if that doeasnt do the trick i downscale to 720p? Or do i just change the bitrate to higher then 3500?

Have i understood this correct?

What is "Downscalefilter" and what setting should i use here ?

i have same issue with WOW on OBS while streaming. I have Ryzen 7 3700X, 16GB Patriot Viper DDR4 Ram, on B550M Aorus Elite motherboard and a GPU that surprised me its pushing many new games at med or even high settings. (GTX 750 2GB 12Bits) Now, i have streamed with OBS on twitch and youtube at the same time no problems Train Sim World 2 and GTA V and some other games, but when it comes to World of Warships its always stuttering... :( how can i fix this ?
