Question / Help Get rid of the shadow

I have several years of experience with WMV screen capture where it is extremely easy to create a pixel correct video representation of the screen. I tried to do the same with OBS, I tweaked quality, bitrate, I even tried lossless encoding (crf=0), no success. Slim, 1 pixel wide sharp lines, like this text font on the screen always get shadowed. If something is 1 pixel wide on the screen, it will be 2 pixels on the video. Lossless mode also gives me grimy videos :-O

I think I miss something here. Any suggestions?

It outputs to YUV 4:2:0 which is another semi-lossy representation of color. The image probably won't ever have full 1:1 representation without full range and YUV 4:4:4, which aren't even supported by flash when streaming, and aren't supported by many h264 decoders.

It doesn't work properly at the moment, and it only decodes via ffmpeg anyway so there's little point in it

I know there may not be any purpose as far as streaming, but it would be nice to have the ability to use i444 or rgb colorspaces for encoding to a file. Any way to make that happen?

Thanks, and sorry for the bump.

This is an old post; I444 encoding was added back in some time back, you enable it by putting Use444=1 into your profile ini file in %appdata%\obs\profiles -- though then again I haven't tested it in ages so it could be broken again.

It does not work for streaming, flash will only show black. It only works for file output and decoding via ffmpeg/libav/vlc/mplayer

Ah, it seems as though it is unfortunately broken. Here's to hoping it finds its way in there permanently someday.

Thanks again.

What makes you say it's broken? I tried using it a few days ago when someone else asked about it, and it output a 4:4:4 video file just fine, I doubt it has been broken since then.

That's really strange. Have you tried the test version as well? I tried it just now, and it output to file just fine.

If you are using MP4 output, try using FLV instead. Not sure if that would affect it in any way, but might as well give it a shot to see if it helps.

Hmm, that is curious.

I just tried the test version, both 32 and 64bit versions. Tried deleting the profile file and starting over. Nothing seems to make it work.
