Question / Help Gamecapture freezes (seemingly) at random

Here's the log file for the test stream I did today: https://gist.github.com/7b4635ea385a7261aaa5

It went a lot better than I experienced in the past. I mostly hit around the 30 FPS, but there are still times where the stream and preview seem to freeze or suffer from horrible FPS for a while before being a solid 30 again. I'm still quite baffled why this would be the case. I would think it is my hardware, but when I have task manager open, it doesn't seem to be too heavy on my system.

I've also tried to use the multi platform, but I haven't managed to figure out how I can make it recognize Wildstar, which I wanted to use for testing purposes to make them a little more consistent. I'll experiment a little further with the multiplatform tomorrow though.

Cheers,
Deomew
Thanks for the update. I would make sure that the power profile you have selected for when the laptop is plugged in is set to max power. Laptops tent do go in a lower power state since they dont have good cooling solutions and often try and not overheat.

My battery has been dead for a while already so my laptop is always plugged in. I've also made sure that the battery options are always running on high performance, so that's not what's causing it either.

As for the overheating. I've got a pretty decent build in Fan which I use almost constantly when gaming or streaming, so I think I should be fine on that matter as well.

So after running some tests with Wildstar and Multiplatform today, I've gotten to some more conclusions:

- In wildstar the lag occurs mostly when I move the camera around.
- Running the game on 720p seems to work a lot better even though both 1080p and 720p roughly seem to be equally as stressfull on the CPU.
- Multiplatform 32 bit seems to be working a little better than the alternatives.

So I fear that I'm just gonna have to tweak my settings more and one day upgrade my hardware for better results. Even though I'm still baffled why the framedrops only happen sometimes at the most weird occasions, I'll just try to avoid them as much as I can for now.

Thanks for all the help already, Dping. Even though the problem isn't really completely solved, you still did help me out quite a bit with tweaking my settings.

EDIT: After running another quick test it seems like the lag mainly seems to occur near fires, lighting effects etc. At least in Wildstar.

Cheers,

Do you have a new logfile from that session?

the difference between 720p and 1080p is about the difference between 1080p and 1440p, so it can be pretty dramatic.
At that, try maybe running Wildstar in dx9 mode?

Code:
Approach 1: DirectX9

The first suggestion that was proposed by many users was to force Wildstar to run in DirectX9, as it appears that DirectX10 and 11 have had some serious issues with optimization. The process in order to do this is quite simple.

Right-click the shortcut icon on your Desktop
    Select Properties
You'll notice under the Shortcut tab, that there is a box called Target
In this box it should list the location of your Wildstar installation. We need to slightly modify this line in order to force DirectX9 mode.
At the very end of your target, enter a space, followed by the text -dx9
For example, my target box is as follows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSOFT\WildStar\Wildstar.exe" -dx9

Well I tried this, and it certainly boosted my FPS in game so thanks for that! But alas, it didn't help anything for OBS. The lag was still present when I was previewing. Something I noticed though was that the lag seems to be unbearable when I'm in an instance. Outside the lag is doable and even gives me a solid 30 mostly, but in the instance, everything just freezes completely.

I don't know what the log would be for last test, but here's the one for today.

Did you ever check your audio format in windows for your mic and headset? If both audio devices are at 28000, set OBS to that, if they are 44100, then leave OBS at 44.1KHz

Also, when you do a test, actually stream, dont just preview.

The settings for both my microphone and speakers are 44100 and OBS is set at 44.1KHz. So there shouldn't be an issue there then.

And I will stream test next time. But might I perhaps ask what the difference is between streaming and preview testing?

P.s.; I'm sorry for responding so late. Halloween arrangements took most of my time the past few days.
