Question / Help Game Sound disappears when I activate Adobe Audition to record live.

Hey so here is the gist of what is going on, hopefully someone has encountered this or knows how to help. Just for the record I record everything on a streaming/work horse PC and capture the games on both my Console and Gaming PC and both were experiencing the following problems (for referencing, the specs to everything are down below the main topic).

In the past weeks my stream and recording setup worked fine, however I recently found out a bunch of different ways to record to split up the load in my system as well as have more control for post editing my streams. I began by changing my recording settings to NVENV H.264 and keeping the stream at x264 so that the load would be split by my CPU and GPU, then I made multiple audio tracks, and then I decided that through the use of audio tracks I wanted to split the desktop audio and the discord audio so I'd have control over that in post as well. So I downloaded virtual audio cables (the standard one and the 2 bonus ones ((A and B)) and this is where I believe the problems started to arise.

I had no trouble using Adobe Audition as a pass through to OBS to mix my audio live, that is up until this point. When I enable Adobe Audition to record and therefore be picked up by my older virtual audio cable it used to work fine, but now it seems that the only way to get the game sound to come through is to disable recording on the track in audition, therefore my audio doesn't come into the recording. Its worth noting that I when I originally discovered the problem I was using the new VA cables for this task but after I switched back to my older VA Cables that were working, but to no avail.

The weird thing is that I can plainly see that the game sound is being registered in the OBS Studio audio track, AND when I did a test stream the game sound is there and everything seems perfect, but NOT in the local recording. So I guess that means that somewhere in my system there is a setting that is preventing it from being picked up, OR is interrupting the signal so that I can't have adobe audition and game audio at the same time be picked up.

This worked fine before so I feel like if anything it has to have something to do with those damn VB Audio Cables (again the older version I had worked fine, I only downloaded this newer version to get more cables) So here is what I've tried thus far:

1. Updated all my drivers for the programs in use to the latest ones to the best of my knowledge

2. Tried downscaling to 720p60 and switching over the x264 for my recording (since it worked fine before, but the problem still persisted there as well)

3. I've removed the new Virtual Audio Cables from my PC and made sure that any trace files were deleted

4. I reverted back to my old setup of just the game being captured by my elgato and my mic being input to OBS from Adobe Audition with the only exception that I had my mic, game and desktop audio on different tracks (but not trying to split the desktop audio with VA Cables) this worked literally just last week and now it doesn't anymore.

5. I've recorded a sample clip on my Xbox One to see if the problem was both on PC and Xbox, not only is it there as well but it doesn't matter whether I "capture device audio only" in the elgato settings (which I use for xbox recordings) or use "export the audio to desktop Waveout" which I use for PC recordings and so that OBS and I can hear the game audio from my gaming PC.

6. I've tried switching around my Elgato and Avermedia inputs to see if it was the Elgato's issue, but nope the Avermedia behaves the same way.

7. I've tried reverting back to the drivers that I had previously to see if that messed something up, but nothing.

8. I've tinkered around with the device audio properties in windows 10 for a little bit but didn't do anything too extensive

9. Bashed my head against the wall

If there were other things I tried I can't even remember, those are just some of the ones that come to mind at this current moment. I've been working on this since I discovered it this last Saturday and I think I might actually be going crazy.

I will work on getting a few logs in here of an instance where its working (with the recording and monitoring off in Audition) and where its not working where I have everything the way it should be working. I am currently at work at the time of this post so I'll have to get back to you on that.

I would appreciate any and all help and suggestions, if I did something already I'll let you know I've just been so tired from working on this I can't even remember all I've done to get this working again. When I get home I plan on uninstalling OBS Studio and re-installing all my settings and everything from scratch to see if that works, but since I have reverted back to my old settings where things should be working I am almost out of ideas of what this could be. I am normally really good at diagnosing problems, but this one seems to be escaping me thus far. Thanks for reading and hopefully there is something you can do to help! +)

Friendly advice...

Please reformat your question into readable paragraphs. I'm staring at this on a 65" 4K monitor and it is not easy to read or follow. To be blunt, one look at this and I click the back button.

I am new to the OBS forum I didn't even realize that people couldn't read this, sorry for any inconvenience but I still need help here so revisiting would really help me out. Hopefully I'm not dismissed due to my inexperience using these forums...

UPDATE: I have now deduced that Adobe Audition isn't the limiting factor in the "audio on/off makes the game sound go away/come back" its the mic input itself for some reason.

I just input the mic directly from from my focusrite input and the sound issues remained, I believe that my focusrite drivers have somehow gotten corrupted/changed when the VA Cables were installed.

I am going to uninstall and re-install to see if that fixes the problem and will post back here with the results. The next option I have if this doesn't work is to uninstall OBS Studio and re-install it as it seems as though there is some interruption on some end between the 2.

UPDATE: I believe I have resolved the issue, for some reason when watching the file back in the default windows media player (what I had been reviewing the clips in the entire time) the audio for the game sound wasn't present. However, when I imported the file into Adobe Premiere Pro the audio was there.

Happy but confused I opened up the file in VLC Player and the problem was still there, but thanks to VLC having more customization options I saw that they allowed per track playback. When I clicked on the track that my Elgato sound was supposed to be coming from low and behold it popped up, then when I clicked on the mic track the mic audio was the one playing. So after a weeks worth of testing, headaches, and a brand new hole in my wall what I have concluded is that Windows Media Player is a very limited program that in rare instances can cause brief moments of insanity....shocker....

...I'll post back here if anything goes wrong, but at this moment this is the surest I've been that I've finally succeeded thus far. Hopefully the journey ends here, have a good day! +)
