Question / Help Game running at 60hz when OBS is on my second monitor...

Hey,

So I am trying to stream Sea of Thieves but when I open OBS on my second monitor the game instantly goes to 60hz, the FPS doesn't drop it is truly just running at 60hz. When I move OBS behind my game onto the 240hz monitor and tab back into the game, it goes back to 240hz.

Yes all my drivers are up to date, yes the game is on true fullscreen.z

My gaming monitor is 240hz and my second monitor which OBS is on is 60hz which I believe is the main issue, but I am trying to find a fix to this before I have to go buy a 240hz second monitor.

Thanks, happy newyear!

If you have any scenes with "display capture" in it, you might want to remove that. Display capture forces 60fps VSYNC, because of the way it records the desktop.
Or alternatively, make a new scenecollection and a new scene with only your game through a gamecapture or window capture and see if your problem still persist.

Even when I delete every scene, its still happening. Not recording or streaming at the same time either... It happens with a friend of mine as well which is why I haven't tried to reinstall yet. But I'll do that now

Could be the darn Windows DWM thing.
Just a quick thing to try, when you open your game and OBS it's stuck at 60fps no? Try and disable preview on OBS, just as a test. If it fixed it, then there's the issue. A lot of people are still waiting for Microsoft to fix this.

Nah, I wish that was it but its not. I could definitely go without the preview. Sadly doesn't help tho :/

Web Browser (at least with video content in the browser, there will be GPU accelaration activ) or OBS.

I doubt it would be anything related to my PC limiting the run speed, I have a 1080ti and 7900x but I'm not sure if it has to do with how good my hardware is. I'm bad at this stuff LUL

But ya the only GPU accelerated program is OBS on the 60hz, the game runs fine with OBS on the 240hz behind the game but I like to see obs so that is my problem

This is a known limitation from DWM. The other display has to run at half the refresh rates, So you could tun 120hz and then it should not downclock.
