Question / Help Game recording only shows the game on the top left!

Hi all, I've just recently installed OBS Studio and I'm having trouble getting my recording to work properly!

I'm trying to record a game: Starcraft Broodwar, but every-time I finish the recording, the game is only recorded and played on the top left hand corner of the display.

Here is an image of the playback recording:

I'm recording on a Macbook Pro Laptop booted into Windows with bootcamp. The recording works, but just not at the right size. I've tried both Game Capture, Windows Capture, AND Display Capture but all of them yield the same result, though they do still record. My resolution is 2560x1600 and I believe the game itself is at a much lower resolution.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! I've been going at it for over four hours with little to no success so I'd be extremely grateful for anyone help in finally getting rid of my frustration. Thank you!

Try setting the canvas of OBS to 800x600 (which I believe the game runs in by default) and see if that helps. Capturing older games like this is always quirky, at best.

Thank you so much! I also just read the thread on recording w/ laptops and I'll try both solutions and hopefully, it'll turn out right!

So I've tried your fix and apparently setting a base canvas of 640x480 (The native resolution for Broodwar) fixed the issue for recording starcraft! However, when I try to record a video where I set up starcraft:broodwar for users, when I'm recording my screen, it's also at 640x480. Is there a way I can change the base canvas for different sources? My desktop screen runs at 2560x1600 so it does NOT look well when I'm using the 640x480 canvas.

Other than changing canvas, you can change the source resolution in obs,
if you using game capture.just right click on game capture>properties, check force scaling> set to your desired resolution or your canvas resolution

There's another way that work for game capture an other capture type like window capture
Just right click the source>transform>fit to screen or other option you like

Or click the source, you'll see red line in OBS display. Drag it until your desired size or just right click on it >transform >fit to screen or other option

because the game resolution is smaller than your canvas, it will have pixel artifact, just like when you resize small picture into big size
