Question / Help Game losing half the fps with OBS just open

Simply just the title. I stream fortnite and without obs open i have 60 fps but while its open, not even streaming, I am barely getting 30 fps and its really hard to play. No matter what video settings i have on OBS, the fps doesn't change. Any reccomendadtions on what i can do?

Set your bitrate higher, its way too low. Try 2500 for starters. Then work your way up in 250 increments to 4000 until it doesnt work.

While his bitrate is incorrect, this is a problem I'm dealing with as well.

I'm running a GTX 1070 with an i7-7700K and just having OBS open, not even streaming, will cut my FPS in half. That's absolutely insane.
