Question / Help Game lags while OBS set to Fullscreen Projector

Hello,

I am using 2 PC's setup for streaming. Since I have a 144hz monitor that uses display port and use Avermedia card wich only has HDMI, I have to open OBS on the gaming PC and do the Fullscreen Projector option in order to get the signal via HDMI to the streaming PC's so OBS work as a second monitor.

The thing is, when I have OBS opened on the gaming PC, my games seem to lag a bit, no fps drop, but still seems a bit choppy, and obs uses only 1-2% of the CPU when in the Projector mode. I have a 1080Ti and 8700k on the so I am a bit confused that OBS could stress the CPU or GPU. Without OBS games run smooth.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure of the exact reason the game would be lagging with the OBS preview window open on the gaming rig, but if someone knows why (and how to work around), that would be invaluable information. I've heard it explained as windows 10 attempting to cap framerate with multiple media sources on screen at once, but I don't know any of the specifics.

However, I *can* tell you that there's a long-standing issue with OBS preview framerate, and even if you did manage to get stable framerate in-game, capturing that preview window on your streaming computer will result in what looks like dropped frames -- those frames are actually missing from the OBS preview window. The best recommendation I can give is to use NDI to send your video from the gaming computer to the stream computer. You don't even need OBS running on the gaming computer, nor do you need to use the capture card, but you will need gigabit Ethernet.
