Question / Help Game Crash Resolution Causing Black Screen Game Capture

Kia ora,

After the installation of Windows 8.1 onto my laptop I had to update my NVidia drivers. This, however, has caused my previously working OBS streams to freeze and crash once the "Start Stream" or "Preview Stream" buttons are clicked (crash dump attached).

The situation appeared to sort itself when I changed the video adaptor to the Basic Windows Render adaptor. I was now able to stream again. However, this in turn caused my Game Capture screen to go black (Video Device Capture still worked). I have read the relevant sticky on Laptops running Nvidia and have still had no luck, but it appears that the common work around is to select the Nvidia adaptor; which caused the problem in the first place (I will post log in comments)

Any help is much appreciated.

If you add OBS.exe to the NVIDIA control panel and set it to run on the NVIDIA GPU, while also selecting the first adapter in the list under Settings > Video (regardless of what it is), does this make a difference?

Also you shouldn't have a Microsoft Basic Render Driver device listed if you've installed all necessary drivers; perhaps go get the latest Intel iGPU drivers as well - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24348

Well, in a strange way I have a resolution. After using the aforementioned link, upon restarting my Laptop something corrupted and I had to refresh my entire laptop. Back to using Windows 8 and everything is working again.

Thanks for your time.
