Question / Help Game Capture not working on Windows 8.1

So i've tried OBS Studio on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. On Windows 7, Game Capture seems to work just fine, however on Windows 8.1 for me, Game Capture doesn't work. It never captures any game, just a black screen. No crashes, just a black screen. Is there known problems with OBS Studio on Windows 8.1?

I don't see any mention of game capture trying to capture anything in that particular log file.

Updated the log. It actually seems to work with a few games. However on Windows 7 every single game i tried worked with no problems using Game Capture. Path Of Exile seems to be one of the games that is really tough to get working on Windows 8.1 using Game Capture.

I too have this issue, I have 2 logs. One of 0.10 and One of the VCE fork (using VCE).

I have same issue.
All my games show black screen, but in window capture it works just probably not as good as game capture mode would.
My games I have tried:
Mechwarrior Online, Terreria, Half Life 2: Day of Defeat

so 3 different game engines and no results. Going to have to go back to OBS stable for gaming.

Wanted to say that OBS Multi is coming along quite well. I am truly impressed and pleased with all the clean code.

Looking forward to Quick Sync encoding. I hope this game capture issue will be resolved in the next beta perhaps.

...I did not know that there was a VCE encoder plugin in the works for obs-studio. Interesting.

Anyway, as for the issue, it seems to state the issue:
18:56:33: [game-capture: 'GTA V'] could not open process: GTA5.exe

I'm guessing that the program needs to be run as admin? There is a particular issue with game capture in the multiplatform version where both the game and obs have to be run at the exact same security level, I may have to go back and make it similar to obs1 just because it's confused enough people. (When I say same security level, I mean OBS-MP has to be admin if the game is admin, or OBS-MP has to be non-admin if the game is non-admin).

So you may have to try purposely with/without admin. If you continue to have a problem let me know, I have 8.1 but I can get GTAV for testing if needed. It's just.. kind of a big download and I'd probably have to clean up my hard drive, which I've been sort of putting off (I should probably stop data hoarding).

So that was my problem. I had to run "Steam" in adminstrator mode.. Now things work just fine.

Okay, thanks for the confirmation, and apologies about that. I'm definitely going to have to change the hooking method to the old style by default to prevent this little annoyance from happening.

In the past few days I have been having that issue too. Was running Witcher 3 smooth with game capture, then one day randomly it stopped working. Came here for a solution and found it - changing the Witcher 3 to "run as admin" seems to have screwed it up, just as it was mentioned it up there in a previous post. Updated OBS MP to run as Admin too and things went back to normal.

So what is the point of having them at the "same" level, is that programmed in there to be that way, or a side effect of the method you're using? This is the biggest complaint streamers have with moving to OBS-Studio, games won't capture, which is... well, I mean, the most important feature, a major deal breaker. I would love to know a be all/end all fix for this.

At the moment I'm trying to stream, yet nothing is showing up, nothing. Oh and needing to restart OBS to get the permission settings right is insane, considering that means "Oh I'm gonna change games over, so lemme stop and start the stream to get OBS to have the right permission level" is the kind of unprofessional that turns most people away. I kind of hate streaming new/different games because they don't capture for the first day.

For people that come here through google:
You always had to run OBS under administrative rights if you wanted to capture a game that ran under administrative rights. In the classic OBS Game Capture is a section that informs you if you have to run OBS as admin which is currently not present in OBS-Studio though.

If you have to run one of your games as admin, just generally run OBS as admin and you are fine for "normal user level" games as well.
You can also always run OBS as admin even if you currently have no game that you know of that runs as admin and should not experience problems.
