Game capture not working (anymore)

While debugging a different OBS issue I updated OBS to the latest version, and since the game capture refuses to work (black screen).
Was working fine before, very frustrating...

Steps i've taken:
- Running the program as admin
- Full uninstall & fresh reinstall
- other things (GPU selection), but since I'm not on a laptop I don't think this had relevance. Nevertheless, set it to high performance - no change.

FWIW - 'display capture' works fine, just tried.

Log File can be found here.

My bad, got sloppy when creating a log file. Two new log files below

  • Started a game on both steam and epic clients
  • in analysis it came with several warnings (audio buffering/rendering lag/CPU renderer overload)
  • I assume these warnings are mostly related to me starting & quitting 2 clients and 2 games in short succession just to provide a log file
  • started OBS with a game already running (there's a reference to the game in the log file)
  • no warnings in analysis this time, but result is the same - black screen no game capture3
Both logs filled with "WASAPI: Device 'default' failed to start" notifications, which I assume will be the issue?

Thanks again cyclemat :)

New log file where I try the "capture specific window" approach instead of "capture any fullscreen".

still doesn't work. Frustratingly however, it does work as a preview:

Regarding drivers - I think so, but would need to doublecheck tomorrow. But was working fine a few days ago (on previous version).

Display drivers were not up to date, they are now. No change, every game works in "mode" preview screen when I set 'capture specific window'. Recording will still only yield blackness :(

The anti-cheat thingie was already checked.

Regarding the transform -> fit to screen advice: I thought I tried that before and it didn't work...

... however, I just tried it again and now it (= combination of "capture specific window" and "fit to screen") actually does work!
not sure if this means my troubles will now be resolved for all future sessions, but nevertheless - thanks for the help.
