Bug Report Game Capture freezing

Narrian

New Member
So, I started streaming this morning, and i noticed while talking to my chat, that my game(Smite), had frozen in the Obs window, and on the stream itself. In order to fix this, I just hit F11 twice, and then its fine. What seems ot be the problem is anytime i leave focus of smite, and then refocus it, it freezes. Which, honestly, is really annoying. I dont understand why ive had no issues for the past month, and then this morning it starts happening. I even uninstalled obs twice, with no luck, redid scenes/sources, nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Same thing happens to me. I've tried this with 2 different games, SWTOR and SC2. First time I start OBS it shows the game, yet when I switch over to the game (OBS on secondary monitor, game on primary), the stream picture freezes. Or if I have already set up the stream when I start the game, it works fine until I alt-tab out of it (I use windowed fullscreen for both). If I remove and re-add the Game Capture, it will only show a black screen. Happens in both 32 and 64-bit.

Using Windows 8 64-bit. DirectX and Graphics drivers up to date. Everything worked fine a few months back when I had Windows 7, and obviously an earlier version of OBS.

Side note: Screen Capture works wonderfully in Win 8, I have better performance with it than I did in Win 7 with Game Capture.

I did a complete clean of OBS, even the Appdata/roaming/OBS settings folder, and then reinstalled 0.473b V10, and its running np now. Still dont know what the cause of this problem was, but its working fine now.

Do you have Mumble/Teamspeak overlays at all or anything, out of curiosity? They can sometimes interfere with game capture.

Also, glad test 10 is working okay.. Hm, strange. Thanks for the info.

For me, the problem was Fraps. Without it running, Game Capture works fine. As soon as I start it, things go bad.

You generally don't want to use fraps with OBS. It will cause problems. Besides, OBS does just about everything fraps does anyway outside of fully uncompressed video output (though you can do lossless), and printing the FPS.

I use Fraps to monitor my FPS, and for local recording. With Fraps I can record my games in 1080p without much of a performance impact. It starts up with Windows and I've just always had it running, never really thought I might need to shut it down for something. No biggie, no need to use them simultaneously anyway.
