I am also in the same boat. I've reinstalled my capture card drivers. I've reinstalled OBS. I've double checked my HDMI cables. I've updated the firmware for my card. It was working perfectly fine when I first installed it. Now I don't get anything. No sound, no game visuals. I have a log, but no good place to post it.

I have that problem too but I have a laptop that's why I just had to run my game in windowed mode which makes it run 10-20 fps less. Anyways the main thread on it doesn't help if you don't have NVidia.

@BloodRageGaming The afore-mentioned issues are with an in computer capture, I believe.
My issue was with capturing a game console. I did find the fix: I had been using an old computer monitor while I was home for the holidays and therefore I had switched the output type and size of my Xbox. After I switched everything to match my OBS inputs, it all worked fine.

@AdrienFox You may also have this issue if you are trying to capture directly on your computer. Make sure your OBS capture size and framerate are aligned with the game you're trying to capture. Window capture probably works because it just automatically pulls whatever size the window is. I don't know that this will fix it, but it's worth a shot.

On rare occasions, when capturing fullscreen games using monitor capture will produce a black screen.
Try and run the game in windowed mode if possible.

Yep, fullscreen games should be captured using Game Capture if possible, not Monitor.
Depends on each person. Personally I use monitor capture whenever I can due to how easy it is to get working, and the performance compared to Windows 7 (which I used before upgrading to Windows 10) is nothing short of amazing.

No, I mean that many fullscreen games don't draw the same way, which is why Monitor Cap gets a blackscreen on many. It's why you have Game Capture. I normally just use one global GameCap with a hotkey, simplifies matters greatly, along with the added benefit of giving you control over everything that appears on-stream.

Ahh gotcha :) I haven't experienced any black screens yet, well 1 maybe but it's so rare that it can hardly be called an issue. I've had plenty of black screens during my windows 7 days and using game capture. Monitor capture just works for me, and requires to setting up. Easy.
