Question / Help Game Capture "Black Screen" Bug - With Video!

Hello All,

As you may have seen, there have been reports on various forums about the "Black Screen" bug with the Game Capture. To summarize, it's just the lack of capture that leaves a black screen when recording, as the people that experience this do not have a monitor capture set up on the designated scene.

With that said, my explanation may seem quite terrible so I've made a recording and uploaded it to youtube as a visual reference. You can click this text or copy paste the following link to review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1igHxwp2LTk

I've attached the full log file as well as an edited log file that contains the time game of the youtube recording. I've also attached a DxDiag for further review as well.

Please ask me any questions or request additional information so that I can assist with gathering that info for you as quickly as possible.

Thanks for the help,
Nihongo Nooblet

EDIT: Sorry, I just realized I mistakenly made the video private. That has been promptly corrected and you should now be able to see it.

Getting a black screen with game capture is generally not a bug but rather a configuration issue or software conflict.

- Are you placing your monitor capture source above your game capture source(s) in the list? If so the monitor capture source will go black and cover up the game capture source when you start a full screen game.

- Are you running any other programs that also try to hook into your game, like EVGA Precision/MSI Afterburner/Fraps/etc.? Those can cause this type of problem.

- Does OBS warn you that you need to run it as administrator to capture your game? That would be worth trying.

Also be aware that full screen games stop rendering when you alt-tab out of them, which will cause a black screen in the OBS preview window until you switch back to the game.

I apologize, but there may be some confusion. There problem is not a black screen, but a lack of capturing after 1 match has been played in League. Thus, if there is nothing else that is being captured at the time, it results in a black screen because that is all that's left.

If you watch my 4 minute video in the original post, it explains what is occurring and provides a visual reference.

As for your questions go:
1) No, there is normally no monitor capture at all on the scene. I do not like to use monitor capture unless game capture does not function as intended.

2) I'm not running any other third party software that attempts to hook into the game that I'm aware of. The only thing I could think of is the Logitech software for my mouse and keyboard, but I've tested without it and the issue persists.

3) OBS does not warn me that I need to run as admin. I've seen that suggestion on another thread and attempted it, but unfortunately this did not resolve the problem.

I got the same problem as Nihongo Nooblet.

For me it does help when I refresh the gamecapture, but it is really annoying to do this every time u start a new game.

I haven't tried older OBS versions, so I will go try that out now.

You definitely shouldn't have to refresh game capture for this. I can't help but wonder if perhaps it's a configuration issue or something, because this really shouldn't happen. Are you using a scene switcher plugin?

I have a scene switcher plugin installed, but it was never used. After this issue rose up, I actually installed the League Scene Switcher and it works without any issues currently.

To answer the question more simply,
1) 2 scene switcher plugins are currently installed
2) Only the league scene switcher is actually in use and is functioning
3) League scene switcher was installed AFTER issue began
4) I can test to remove the other scene switcher plugin if you'd like, but I don't believe this is the problem as it's not attached to anything.

**EDIT - I believe it's in relation to a League update that semi-recently came out. I remember a hotfix/patch coming out and then the issue began. I can't recall exactly when though. Unfortunately, I don't believe it's possible to test older versions of League.
