Question / Help Full Screen causes black screen

hey guys i've been having problems trying to record Total war Rome 2 as i get the audio but no video it just becomes a black screen and if i play it windowed and window record it the recording doesn't use the full screen no matter the settings

the one that ends in 29 is the full screen and the one that ends in 32 is the windowed mode

How are you checking to see if it captured correctly?

sorry for not replying sooner i'm looking at the preview and the actual recorded video for both (obviously preview doesnt work for full screen)

The reason I ask is because if you alt-tab to check the preview, it will be black because the game stops rendering when you alt-tab.

nope the end recording no matter what stays black unless i window but then it doesn't show up correctly

Is the game capture the only source? Or do you have a webcam or other overlay that is showing up correctly?

What program are you using to play back the video?

yes when im using full screen game capture is the only sorce. and when recording windowed im only using windowed capture. I haven't tried many other games but they all seem to work with game capture Rome 2 is the only one not working. Im using the default windows video player but i also uploaded one of them to youtube just to make sure it wasn't something with the computer

If other games seem to work properly with game capture, try running OBS as admin by right-clicking on its shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator".

still a black screen,and still receiving audio I asked people on the Rome 2 forms and others have been having the same problem with recording Rome 2 with obs

I feel like something is blocking game capture, preventing it from working properly.

It says you tried window capture as well though, did you try running the game in a borderless/windowed mode to see if it window capture works?

i tried window capture and when i tried it kinda works but the image doesn't fill up the whole video screen regardless of options with either obs or the game like it has been doing before

also if it helps it has built in twitch support but it is not enabled and has never been (also thanks for the help so far)

Are you running the game at a lower resolution than your monitor? You may just need to fit the window capture source to the screen, with Ctrl-F, or right click on the source to access options for its orientation.

that fixed it i was running my monitor at 1280X768 slipped in on there. thanks alot guys and keep up the good work with this program

I'm having the same problem right now. Anyone can explain how to stream RTW without a black screen?
