Question / Help Full computer lag with software capture

Hey everyone.

I've been using OBS for a while now with no problems when using the Game Capture option. However, recently, I've decided to try switching over to Software Capture, as it would allow me to stream more games on the same profile, while also allowing me to show desktop and such.

When switching to Software Capture, though, my entire computer lags. Mouse cursor, windows, everything becomes noticeably choppy.

My computer is plenty powerful. I'm currently running an i7 Bloomfield @ 4.0 ghz, 16 gb of RAM, and an ATI 7970 graphics card.

This problem isn't exclussive to OBS, it happens when using screen region in xsplit as well.

Any help or input would be highly appreciated.

If you are using windows 7 turn on aero when using window capture, or turn off aero when using monitor capture. Also please post a log so we can see more information if the problem isn't as simple as that.

If you don't know how to post a log file.

Basically what Floatingthru said.

If you are on Windows 7,
- Aero must be off for Monitor capture
- Aero must be on with Window capture

Thats strange I get great rates on both and I normally leave Areo on o.o it could just be your specs,

I'm using a AMD, 4x 2.6GZ CPU, 6GB of DDR3, and a Nvidea 430 with 2GB textures GPU. I know my CPU doesn't have L3 cash either. What are your specs. You shouldnt be recording without a decent build, and shouldn't be livestreaming without a great build.

Sorry about the late reply, real life happened right as I posted this.

I've tried disabling Aero, with no results. The lag persists.

Here's a log file from just testing monitor capture:

Are you sure that's the right log? It says that Aero is enabled, and that you are using Monitor capture...Can you make sure that Aero is off and test it then, and give us that log?

You are using both Monitor Capture and Game Capture at the same time. Try using only one type of capture at a time, then see which one has better performance or if you even see any changes at all. Also test for longer than a few seconds.

I just added monitor capture to my current profile, which had game capture. Game capture was turned off.

As for testing for more than a few seconds,I have tried working it earlier, and games are completely unplayable while using software capture, as well as windows lagging as well, of course.
