Question / Help Fps drops with an i7 4770K @3.5GHz

So i am kind of losing my mind over this. These are my specs:

Intel Core i7 4770K @3.5GHz
MSI Z87 G-45 Gaming Motherboard
Nvidia GTX 670 2GB FTW
8GB G.Skill DDR3 1600MHz RAM
Avermedia LiveGamerHD Capture card

I noticed a while ago after i reinstalled windows that i couldn't stream with my pc anymore, everytime i tried streaming BF3 at 720p, the stuttering i got in game was too unbearable. I thought it was my motherboard or CPU, so i changed them both but the problem still persists. Can't tell if it's my GPU because i actually get the maximum frames i should be getting when i am NOT streaming but the minute i start streaming, nothing makes sense anymore. Benchmarked my frames in COD:BO II streaming and not streaming.

Not Streaming - Frames: 21401 - Time: 120000ms - Avg: 178.342 - Min: 132 - Max: 202
Streaming - Frames: 18146 - Time: 120000ms - Avg: 151.217 - Min: 103 - Max: 201

The min and avg pretty much sum it up. Worst part is even with those frames i feel my game stuttering. It isn't as smooth as it would be at those frames even if i wasn't streaming. In BF3 (which is more demanding) it is worse, my frames take a turn for the worse. Going to run benchmarks on those too.

Just let me know what you need to help me sort this out.

Just tried game capture, couldn't tell the difference between if i was streaming or not. So i guess my Avermedia Card is useless to me? So i spent $170 on a capture card for no reason. Time to sell.

EDIT: One more thing, i notice the quality keeps going from terrible to good in certain areas, how do i keep it crystal 720P HD consistently?

Unfortunately capture cards are not very useful in a single PC setup, and as you've experienced first hand, can actually perform worse. HOWEVER, this does seem like odd behavior.

You should be able to use the veryfast x264 preset just fine, maybe even faster. That should noticeably improve your stream quality.

I think it was possibly because because the capture device is set to 1080p, what you should do is set the base resolution of OBS to 1280x720, then set the device to the same, see if that doesn't help at all.

..Though yea, game capture/window capture are actually more effecient than using a capture card.

I think this actually worked. I will try it for a while and confirm by tomorrow. But then my webcam doesn't show up anymore when i changed the base resolution to 720p....

EDIT: Nvm, figured it out.
