Flickering

Hi guys.

New user with an issue.

I am using OBS with virtual camera to integrate with a meeting software , provided by a local council so we can do out theatre in education shows.

I am having issues with the screen flickering when the virtual camera starts .

I have a ATEM mini which is linked usb in to pc controlling 3 x gopro for live cameras.

I have 3 displays running 1 display monitor, 1 preview tv and a tv at the front of the stage so actors can I interact with kids in the classroom.

It all sits fine , until I start the virual camera, then the flickering comes from the cameras nothing else. (Only piece of external hardware ATEM)

I have turned off enhanced game mode, lowerd the FPS and still the same. I reckon I'm missing something silly but cant work out what

Anyone any ideas.

I like many of you have experienced a difficult-to-troubleshoot digital tear that appears periodically towards the bottom half of the OBS window. I have used Blackmagic cameras primarily, though I have also used Sony, and Aida Imaging cameras. This issue persisted with every camera I ran. My old computer didn't do it (Dell) but my new computer does (Acer).

What I tried:

I tried changing out every cable. I tried removing every line one by one. I updated drivers. I cross synced refresh rates, down to each camera's shutter speed. I thought sending audio through on top of the HDMI lines was overhauling the USB C - on top of the information being sent to the Atem App. Then it occurred to me to simply buy a new video capture and send the video out from the HDMI monitor out of the Atem Mini. Although I still think that would work, here is why it did, and why it shouldn't have.

What worked:

I purchased a Blackmagic HDMI SDI Ultra Studio Recorder that would take the HDMI monitor feed from the Atem Mini and send it to OBS as the video capture, rather than sending the video feeds through the USB C (which again I think is the root bottleneck issue). Anyways, plugging that hdmi into the Ultra studio, into my computer via thunderbolt the flickering stopped completely, instantly. The problem here is that I learned shortly after that my computer doesn't have a thunderbolt port, even though the connection is the same to usb-c. The Blackmagic software couldn't find the device, because it's digital out cannot be read by my PC. Yet the flickering is gone.

Conclusion:

I don't know anything about USB cables or ports, but I think it's an electrical thing and the signal flow gets unbalanced under certain hardware compatibility setups. Try closing the loop even if it make no sense to!
