Flashing video and skipping audio while capturing VHS

I'm using ION VCR to PC with updated drivers to capture family VHS tapes. I can see the video, but it flashes and skips the audio. In fact, the flashing happens on the laptop screen even the VCR is off. I've tried switching the firewire to USB, but it is still flashing. I'm working on a laptop
