Hey, I'm using OBS to stream on twitch.tv

I had a very laggy stream, here is my Log from my 5/10 minute test stream.

https://gist.github.com/2221d0b02950f5211602

=========================================

I also got this notification from OBS afterwards.

Aero is disabled

Aero seems to be disabled, consider enabling it unless using monitor capture.

Multiple video cards detected

If you are having problems and are using a laptop, see this thread for advice.

If you are using SLI or Crossfire, you may need to disable it for compatibility with OBS.

Window capture with Aero disabled

You are using window capture with Aero disabled. This causes other windows placed on top of the capture window to show on the stream instead of only the selected window. It is recommended to enable Aero when using window capture to prevent this.

Slow sources detected

Some of your sources are taking a very long time to start or stop when changing scenes. If you use video devices such as a webcam, capture card, etc, add them as global sources to prevent this.

4 issues found (1 major, 3 minor).

=======================================

As for Aero I'm not using Monitor Capture but I am using windows capture. So turning that on would be okay, right?

Multiple video cards detected. I have my GTX 670 and my stock Graphics card. How would I set this to just my GTX?

As for my slow sources, I have all the ones listed as Global Sources. So how would I fix that.

========================================

Thanks for your help. I'be been learning all this from youtube.

Yeah, you should be fine to re-enable Aero.

As for the laggy streams; what settings are you using and what's your upload speed? For testing your upload speed, most people recommend using this site: http://www.speedtest.net/ . I myself have used: http://testmy.net/upload .

For the video card part, under "Video" for the "Settings" window there should be a drop-down for "Video Adapter"; make sure the right card is selected there.

you are running win7 have aero disabled which is okay

but using window capture wont work properly

stay with game capture only for your gaming content and reenable aero if you need window capture

also make sure to set images as global source instead if a normal source per scene

another factor could be your webcam if the resolution is set too high or the combination of resolution and fps

Looks like your cpu can handle those settings well, and there was also zero dropped frames, so it's not about internet speed or cpu. How did you notice that lagging?? Was it buffering or just stuttering??

I did a 25 MB test and got 19.1 Mbs and a 50 MB test and got I got 21.9

I'm using Window Capture for Twitch Chat

Video Capture is set to my good Video Card

And the lag was detected by a friend I got to browse and ensure my connetion was okay. Maybe it was his PC not mine?

This is what my reports say this time.

Window capture with Aero disabled

You are using window capture with Aero disabled. This causes other windows placed on top of the capture window to show on the stream instead of only the selected window. It is recommended to enable Aero when using window capture to prevent this.

Slower preset in use

You have changed the default preset to faster. Using slower presets can result in late frames and high CPU usage / low FPS. You should only change the preset if you are sure you have the CPU power to spare.

Excessive bitrate

Your bitrate is very high. For live streaming, your viewers must also be able to download at the bitrate you specified. Setting too high of a bitrate will cause your viewers to experience lag and your stream may also drop frames if the streaming service you use does not support such high bitrates.

5 issues found (1 major, 4 minor)

=======================================

I finally found where Areo was and I enabled for my next stream, not the one logged.

What should I do tom improve?

Also, Chat has a very long lag.

Thanks Again.

23:32:30: Video Encoding: x264

23:32:30: fps: 30

23:32:30: width: 1280, height: 720

23:32:30: preset: faster

23:32:30: profile: main

23:32:30: keyint: 60

23:32:30: CBR: yes

23:32:30: CFR: yes

23:32:30: max bitrate: 11800

23:32:30: buffer size: 12100

well with that bitrate you are rather going to get banned on twitch and its going to be laggy with no doubt.

recommended max is at 3500 everything slightly above it is okay some bitrate like you are using is excessive

for 720p30 around 2000-3000 is fairly enough

another point would be using a slower preset with an i5 might cause problems depending on the game due to the cpu not being able to handle it properly. staying with veryfast preset is usually the best since the gain of quality is actually just marginal

Yeah, lower your bitrate. I've heard that recommended is less than 3000 with that resolution. I personally stream at 1700 bitrate with 720p30 resolution, so it won't buffer for viewers and in games like CS:GO it looks good, but in some games like Far Cry 4 the stream is pixelated.

Okay, I got my bitrate lowered for my next stream as well. I have my FPS at 60. I used my video last night and had a friend preview. It all seemed decent this time. I'll log my finding again next stream but I was also wondering 2 additional things.

I was hoping to get my chat closer to real time. I'm averaging 60-90 seconds before the chat relays.

Also, this is my 1st time using two monitors. When I'm running the game and switching to the 2nd monitor to switch scenes or anything else It minimizes the game when I switch screens. Is there a way to fix that so my game is always displayed?

Thanks.

(Will load my next log tomorrow maybe?)

this is caused by the stream delivering system of twitch you cant really do much against it except lowering your bitrate but even then the delay will be at around 20-60sec

As for the game minimizing when you click the other screen: you'd have to either run the game in Windowed Mode (which would leave/have the extra border and buttons like web browsers, etc. have) or if there is an option to run in Borderless Window Mode. Essentially making it look like it's running in the normal Full Screen Mode.

Like people already mentioned: 720p@30fps max. Then play with max bitrate (2000-3500). Also I assume you've used JTVPing to choose the best server for you.

Cheers.

Okay to lower it to 720p is that the section under Video, The Resolution Downscale, then set it to 1280x720 or am I missing what I supposed to do?

Yes, under "Video" within "Settings" make sure either have "Base Resolution" either entered manually into the "Custom" fields (first box is width, second is height), or choose which monitor to copy the resolution from (your primary monitor you view your games on if you have/use more than one (monitor) at the same time while playing games.

In your case your "Custom" "Base Resolution" (if you go that route) would be "1920" in the first box and "1080" in the second box.

Then for "Resolution Downscale" drop down choose "1.50 (1280x720)" and then "Lanczos (best detail, 36 samples)" for the "Filter" right below that.
