Question / Help File Output Not Working

Hey everyone.

I have been live streaming on Twitch some time now and everything has been going great.

Today I tried to record something and save it as a local file and it's not working.

The saved file won't play in WMP and it's a black screen /w no sound in i-tunes. What the hell? It works fine on Twitch still.

I used the reccomended settings in the local recording manual on the boards here for the setup. So what's the deal?

Thinking of re-installing OBS just to see if that fixes it.

Suggestions?

UPDATE:
I set the Audio Output back to AAC and the bitrate back to 2400 and it's kind of working. I still have no video. BUT it now does play in WMP and I do have sound.

Now if I could only get the video to work.....

OBS saves output as .flv files, which Windows Media Player can't play by default. You can either search for a codec to allow them to play in WMP, use a program to convert the .flv into a different file format, or get a different media player like VLC Player.

You can save files as MP4s with OBS.

But that is a good question: Do the files play back correctly in VLC?

You should verify that it doesn't work in other players like VLC or MPC-HC.

Your stream looks fine but you could tweak your audio settings for better performance, set all your audio input devices to match the 44100 Hz you have OBS set to, and there's little reason to stream at 160kbit audio, 128kbit is fine. For the save to disk its not terrible to save at a higher bitrate, but with OBS, unless you run multiple instances of OBS at the same time, you're stuck with the same settings for both streaming and capture to disk, so you should set it to 128kbit instead of 160kbit.

That brings up another point. Try just saving to disk, no stream, using the advice here: http://obsproject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2972 and see if the resulting file is viewable or not. Just as a test to see if there's any difference.
