Feedback and suggestion. Pause recording.

Sometimes there are lul's or times in the video where nothing is happening.
Or when you have to take a break or go away for 1 minute.
And it ends up being 10 minutes.
Or when you're downloading or installing something
and have to wait for 1 minute and it ends up being 10 minutes.
This is kind of okay with live video
but a huge and complete waste of time for people watching a pre-recorded video.

So my suggestion is to add a "pause" recording button or something.
That way people who don't have great pc's and can't edit videos well
can still upload videos easily that don't waste everyone's time.

I think this is a great suggestion and would bring obs to near perfection.
Not only for live video broadcasting
but also for screen recording in general.

Please add it. Thank you.

Lowering the video bit rate to 1 or 0 is hardly less ridiculous
than setting it to the maximum of a signed integer,
It is the to the PC's hard drive.

I would say it's about equal.
Then make them equal by giving us the freedom to change it to 1 or 0.

Please implement this first.

Please stop locking people's threads when you don't like their words as well.

Thanks.

The thread was locked because pausing the recording has already been requested numerous times, and your comments were not adding anything to it at all. I did not lock the other thread, believe what you like.

Since you're so adamant about this entire thing, I decided to test this ridiculous stuff for you.

1. The audio
We cannot provide you with bit rates lower than 32Kbps with the current codecs. There's a bug in the AAC encoder that doesn't allow it to go below 128Kbps, and the MP3 encoder reverts to 32Kbps if you try to set it anything below this. We can't remove this limitation because of the way our encoders work.

2. The video
If you put in the least bit of effort, you can change this setting yourself. Open up %appdata%\OBS\profiles and use a text editor to open the profile .ini file for the profile you are using. Look for the options MaxBitrate and BufferSize under the [Video Encoding] section. Please be aware that even at an FPS setting of 5, 1 Kbps is not enough to present a single complete frame for a Gameboy resolution video. That's simply how the video encoder works.

When obs-studio comes out, we will be able to implement support for custom encoder outputs, which may enable you to use your corner case extremely low settings, but it will still be completely useless for anything but your personal archiving needs.

The Helping Squad
This thread should actually have been deleted right away, at least I would have done that. For reference:
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/remove-obss-limitations-in-video-and-audio-encoding.12904/

So this is just another copy of a useless discussion in which everything was said already. (I never got a response from you on that thread btw, so I closed it as I thought you would finally accept the logical arguments we gave you). This time you dont even seem to ask for anything, it looks more like a "hey I feel abused by the admins" thread. You can always join us in the obs support chat and talk directly if you feel we did something wrong, but please dont start new posts for nothing.

Paibox now again explained in easy words why it will not be added to OBS1 and why it may be possible to do to some extent in OBS-Studio. So please, we heard you, accepted that its a dumb idea(sorry, maybe my german is bad, but I couldnt find a better word), but will probably still allow it in the future.

(If this thread now goes into a discussion about admin abuse or "because we can" stuff, I will delete it)
