Every time I press record it says starting the output failed.

NVIDIA - 940MX (Maybe the problem)

Switch recording's encoder to something else. Your CPU might be able to support QuickSync encoder.

940MX is GM108 which don't have a working NVENC.
https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix (GM108 is not listed here)
