Question / Help Extremely Budget Oriented Gaming/ Streaming PC

I have a friend with a $300 budget for a CPU and GPU upgrade. He is won a Z97 motherboard on a stream and he's gonna take the other parts and case from his current APU build. I can't decide b/w telling him to get a Pentium G3258 w/ a GTX 760 or a i3 4360 w/ a R9 270. OOOOR keep the mobo in storage for the time being and just add a discrete GPU (maybe a 770 or 280x) to his current build.

It would help if you said what his current build was. My advice would be to get an i5 4690k for that mobo then add a discrete gpu when he can afford it. Never cheap out when upgrading.

I said he had an APU build. Don't see how the rest of that really matters. He has a 7850k with no discrete GPU. A 600w Corsair CXM, 8GB of 1866 RAM, and a 1TB HDD sitting in a Bitfenix Prodigy. Don't see how a 4690k with no GPU would make any sense...The iGPU isn't going to run a single game that he plays.

He might be able to stream in very very low resolutions and at a faster preset (superfast/ultrafast) which will degrade the quality with those CPU's. At least an i5 will be needed to make sure you have enough cpu power to stream anything decent.
He can probably use the PSU, RAM, HDD and case. He already has the board you said, so hmm, maybe he should save money for one or two months, then get an i5 or xeon with a 760/270 GPU.

a bit over 300 but thats probably the best you can get as a gaming/streaming system at this price point since there arent really any 100$ i5's

that would be an i5 .. but why take an quad core if you can have an hyperthreaded quad core, right?

gpuwise you can also go with an r7 260x/265x they are all at the same price and cost the same customers choice whatever he prefers, since i prefer nvidia cards i chose the 750ti

he can keep ram/hdd/case/psu

also apu's are just garbage when it comes to streaming

also at 300$ budget theres no real choice for the gpu at this point but for the cpu and when it comes to streaming the xeon will beat the i5 without a problem and if he isnt streaming the ingame perfomance is just the same for the price of no igpu on the xeon

Would be great if he had 50 bucks for an xeon 1230, that would add hyperthreading.

Thanks for the input, guys. He's actually going to give me the APU and mobo he currently has for a HTPC. I'll give him $50 that he wasn't expecting, so he can get an i5 4460 and a GTX 760 since they've dropped the price due to the 970 and 980 being releases. It's gonna be around $340. That'll give him 3 options for streaming.I'm sure he'll be able to find one that fits his needs.
