Question / Help External usb mixer xenyx x1204usb mixer and xenyx 802usb mixer

Hi there newbie here.

Right here is my issue and any help would be greatly appriciated.

I run a home radio station through an application called rocket broadcaster and its set up so I can fade one channel in and one channel out between music to my listeners. I want to incorporate OBS in to my set up so I can live stream to Facebook at the same time but because of facebooks copy right policy on music my audio gets muted.

so this is what I want to do.

Stream to my station server like normal using my external mixer or (mixers) if need be and use channel faders but set up obs to stream video and audio to facebook live aswell with the same mic audio and music audio but be able to mute the music to the stream should I get flagged. I just can't workout the settings to make it all work in conjunction with each other (my brain hurts now) is windows settings and obs settings.

My set up

Both mics plugged in to xenyx 802 USB mixer to laptop usb.

2 music sources plugged in to channel 1 and 2 on xenyx 1204 USB mixer to laptop USB would rather be able to use just one mixer but if 2 are needed then not a problem.

I'm trying to output mic and music to my station through rocket broadcaster and output the same mic and music audio to my live facebook stream through obs but be able to mute the music on its own through obs to favebook and not the radio stream but keep mic audio through obs the hope all that makes sense.

So to make it simpler

Mic audio and music audio through external mixer to radio stream.

Mic audio and music audio through external mixer to obs. but be able to mute the music and not the mic to Facebook with out there being any consequences on the radio stream

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post

If you don't have to worry about stereo sound, then what you can do is use the FX-send as a separate mixing bus. You'll need the ability to capture the analog output from this, as this will be what goes to facebook.

This setup is simple enough to only require the 802. However, you lose out on stereo sound going to facebook (your radio will still get full stereo over USB).

Ch1, ch2 - your mics
Ch3/4 - music source #1
Ch5/6 - music source #2
Each of these channels should have the FX send knob set to mid for normal broadcast. FX send should be captured and sent to facebook, the main USB output would be sent to your radio.

When facebook music muting needs to happen, turn down the FX dial on both Ch3/4 and Ch5/6. This will retain the mics for facebook, kill the music, and the main output going to your radio will be unaffected.

If you need stereo sound for both outputs, then I can describe a solution that works. Fair warning though, it gets a lot more involved.

Thank you for the swift reply ideally I would like a stereo stream for the facebook feed so if possible could you describe that scenario may be a step by step. I mean only if you have the time and if possible could you explain how id be able to capture the analogue signal and direct it through obs to Facebook sorry its been a long day at work been trying to do this task for 2 weeks now and still no luck thank you in advance

Ok, so let's scratch that first setup and get going with the dual setup, all USB. I do have one major question before we figure out a setup that works best...

What is your preferred monitoring style for what you're hearing yourself? Do you want to hear yourself over the mics, or do you just want to hear the music in the headphones?

I prefer to hear myself so I can keep my voice levels right.

So this is the best I can come up with based on your mixer capabilities. If anyone else has any ideas as to how to do this better, please chime in.

802 - mic control, ch1 and ch2. Connected to your laptop via usb, FX send connected to ch1 on your 1204 w/ 1/4" TRS.
1204 - music control, ch5/6 and ch7/8 (w/ the FX send from the 802 on ch1). Connected to your laptop via usb, headphones plugged in to this mixer.

For the 802, just make sure the FX send is turned up to adequate level on ch1 and ch2.

For the 1204, there's a few things.
- ch1 has alt3-4 enabled
- alt3-4 and main mix are both selected for monitoring

Basically, the 1204 will be outputting everything to the headphones since you're including both the alt bus and the main mix, but it should only be sending the music over USB.

Now for software, unfortunately Rocket doesn't have any way that I saw to include multiple audio sources at once. So, you'll need to use something like Voicemeeter Banana to combine both mixer inputs into a single virtual output.

For facebook, just include both mixer inputs into OBS, and set up a hotkey to mute the 1204 input when needed.

Brilliant thank you very much for your detailed explanation I'll have a go at the weekend and let you know how I got on just one last question ive heard of voicemeeter and was just wondering if its easy to configure once again thank you ever so much

Fairly simple. It's designed so that everything is taken care of within the main gui. Select each mixer for hardware inputs 1&2, and ensure B1 is selected as the output for each. Then use Voicemeeter VAIO as your Rocket audio device.

Actually, I'm a derp. No need for voicemeeter.

Wiring stays the same... although I just realized that instead of pulling from the FX line, you could just pull from one of the control outs of the 802 and that would work just the same, since nothing else is being fed in.

For the 1204, no need to set ch1 to alt3-4, and no need to include alt3-4 in your headphones. Everything goes to the main mix.

Basically, the 1204 is the "full mix" input, which you'll use for Rocket, and the 802 is the "half mix" which just includes voice. In OBS, just set up one scene that includes the 802, and another which includes the 1204. When facebook isn't muting you, use the 1204 full version. For voice-only, just switch to the 802 scene.

Only thing you have to do extra is make sure the levels in OBS are matched between scenes, and you're done.

Its all working I've never been happier thank you may be up and running tomorow. I only have 1 problem though when I play back video on a video player (any video app for windows) after recording I get an echo on the scene with music and on the scene with just the mic audio I'm still getting music coming through its probably something simple but I can't work out how to get it perfect. One thing I did over look though was I can't use the same camera on 2 different scenes unless thats something else I missing any ideas at all thanks in advance

Make sure you're only including the audio source for each scene individually -- don't use the Audio tab in settings to do it (this adds the sources globally).

For the camera, you have to add the existing source for your 2nd scene. Just add a video capture device, then click the radio button for the lower section, and select the one that's already set up.

You my friend are force to be reckoned with with your obs know how it works brilliantly. Ive been wracking my brains on how to get it to work for nearly a week now and you made it so simple. Wish id have thought of it only thing I have done differently is use the main out on the 802 mixer to the aux send on the 1204 so I still have 4 channels free in case I plug in my DJ controller and still it works the same thank you for your time and effort with all your help
