External Mixer problems with OBS/Mac

Hi . I am trying to install to OBS a connection from my external USB mixer a Behringer Xenyx 2222 usb. I am using a Mac Air M1 as the computer. I have set up the mixer in oBS but the problem is I am unable to get a signal onto OBS. I have found the signal under Mac preferences , sound under the default name for the mixer USB Audio Codec and everything is fine so I know the signal is coming into the computer. It just isn't getting onto OBS. I have looked in settings Audio and can find nothing wrong there either. How do I solve this? is there a driver? Thanks

I have exactly these symptoms on an iMac and with a different mixer, and I have spent many hours researching and testing. It worked once and since then I have found no settings or options that will make it work again . Very frustrating.

In case it helps anyone else, I solved these symptoms on my system. I had been starting OBS from a shell command (/Applications/OBS.app/Contents/MacOS/OBS), in the hope that it would cure the flakey behavior of the OBS UI on my Mac. It did nothing to cure the UI problem, but it did cause the additional problem of making the Mixer/Audio source unresponsive i.e. no audio at all. Starting OBS from a Dock shortcut solved the audio problem.
