Question / Help External Encoding/Streaming PC

Hey all,

I'm in the process of putting together my external encoding/streaming PC using:

- i5 2500k
- 4GB RAM
- AVerMedia Live Gamer HD Capture Card

The plan is to try and accomplish the following:

Gaming PC:
- Play games (duh!)
- Spotify Music
- Skype, Mumble, etc.
- Optical Audio out to my Astro A40.
- HDMI from GPU to external encoder.

External Encoder:
- Combine Live Gamer HD, Webcam, and "Now Playing" which is a .txt file in a network shared directory.
- Record Gaming PC audio and voice communications.

Right now, the only thing I do not have figured out is the recording of the gaming PC's audio and voice communications. I have the Wired Astro A40s. Since my gaming PC is Digital I/O from the PC to the MixAmp using their proprietary cable, is there a way to get the audio to record on the encoding machine?

There is a 3.5mm jack for Audio In on the Live Gamer HD. However, in my sounds settings on the gaming PC I have the default device configured to be the Realtek Digital Output for the Optical I/O cable. Does anyone know of a way to get my PC to also output all sound through the 3.5mm audio jack on the motherboard as well?

Or, even better, is my configuration too complicated? Is there something easier I can do to get these two machines to work together? Basically I want ALL encoding and streaming functionality offloaded to a second machine so everything on my gaming PC is dedicated to gaming. I'm trying to stream Battlefield 4 :)

I'm also streaming to Twitch.TV if that means anything.

You might want to look into using the "Listen to this device" feature in Windows sound devices. If your Astro A40s have an equivalent of "Stereo Mix", or if you have a device in your Recording Devices that lets you hear sounds being played back, you can go into its properties and say "Listen to this device" and select an output device that will play back its audio.

If not, you can use a program like Virtual Audio Cable to duplicate an audio device's output to another device.
