External Codec support

I know this has been talked about and that the resulting response was that OBS does a good enough job of compressing via x264, but I'm thinking for something like lossless capture using Lagarith codec where you can have very low CPU usage traded off for hard drive throughput. Would be great for some slower CPU PCs. I thought of this after testing out Mirillis Action! capture software. Even though it uses AMD APP, it actually has LESS impact on my CPU when I use their almost lossless capture codec FICV. I was very surprised to see this. Would be just a cool option I know it would NOT be an option for doing any live broadcasting whatsoever. OBS has some features that no other software I've seen has, like all the plugins and customizing the location and size of the on screen overlays such as time and date, facecam/video inputs, etc.. Would be a great option to be able to have for some people.

That is not the response, you must have misread something. The response is that additional codecs will not be supported in the current incarnation of OBS, because the amount of work involved would not match the usefulness of the feature.

Using various other codecs is already possible in obs-studio through ffmpeg, and support for other codecs can also be added as output modules.

Ok cool, I was thinking of this thread here:
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/change-codec.6795/

Is there a binary of OBS-Studio to download for the public? All I could find was this
https://github.com/jp9000/obs-studio
and I'm not bad a compiling stuff in Ubuntu but never tried in Windows.

No, there is no binary for download, but early alpha test builds should be showing up within the next few weeks/days/apes, I can't give you an ETA, but rest assured that there will be a post in the test builds forum and probably a tweet to accompany it.

OBS Studio will have customizable outputs. It'll have FFmpeg output somewhat early on, and if someone wants to program it to use a custom type of codec, that'll be completely possible now. I'm pretty proud of it, though it may be a while before it gets to that state.
