What I used to do
1. Start on generic "starting soon"
2. Turn on studio mode
3. Get initial game scene set up in preview
4. Transition view.
5. Change preview scene to test camera
6. Turn off studio mode. Program view remained unchanged.
7. Unmute/turn on camera to start stream.
Since OBS 27, turning off studio in step #6 switches the stream to the generic starting scene from step #1 (which is also usually where I leave OBS in before closing, and therefore what it was before entering studio.)
