Question / Help Encoding Overloaded, yet no causes I can see

Hey!

For the last few days OBS often says encoding overloaded and lags. Nothing is overheating, and nothing is at 100% usage, the highest something has gotten is the memory, at 77%.

Just updated to 18.0.2 and the problem still persists.

I just found a VERY reliable way to create the problem, but have no clue how to fix it!

When I click into OBS, the framerate of the game (GTA V) drops to ~15 and stays so until I click on another window. The encoding becomes overloaded until I restart OBS, and streams completely fine unless I click the OBS window.

Well, I switched to Nvenc encoding and the problem is gone, but I still don't understand what was wrong.
