So just to preface this I have tried to do extensive research to no avail, so either I am missing something simple or there is something I am missing.
Second of all this is a stream PC, no other process are taking place on here other than encoding.
PC Specs - Ryzen 1500x
8GB 2666 RAM
1050ti
Now into the meat of the problem.
For a while I was using VLC capturing a RMTP stream for recording. This was working perfectly except for stuttering that a reboot could fix (The stutter was due to something network related, not PC)
The settings I was using was
x264 at 10,000 Bitrate
0 Keyframe Interval
Fast Settings
High Profile
Zero Latency for tuning
I would record in VLC and then stream using nearly the same settings in OBS except for a 3500 bitrate, Medium settings, and no zero latency. Also 2 Keyframe interval like twitch likes.
So both were using x264 for no problems, and both looked amazing.
Recently I came across NDI for OBS
This simplified the stream from one computer to the other. I decided to give it a shot.
I found quickly that I could not retrive an NDI stream with VLC.
So I decided to use OBS. I used the same settings as VLC that were working in VLC. Without even streaming I started recording using the settings above in OBS. Nearly instataniously the encoder overloaded. I tried tweaking with all the settings and could not get it to work.
The stream settings I was using before still kind of worked, however I had to dial it back to fast.
I went back to the old way of doing things, and they worked as well. So I don't think it was an update.
So why would it go from using x264 for both streaming and recording albeit in different programs but on the same computer, to not even working for recording in OBS?
