Question / Help Encoding on a different machine or PC?

Hello there,

So as we all know trying to encode and play games on the same pc can bring its own problems.

What I was wondering was, is there a device that you can export the stream out to that does the encoding and streams it?

I am told you can use a second PC, but I was wondering if anyone was aware of a stand alone device and if not, what spec should the streaming PC be and the best way to send the footage over to the second PC.

Hmm, a device that does the stream would probably be more expensive than putting together a second PC with a capture card (or without).
The streaming PC can be a simple i5 system with an internal capture card, for example Avermedia Game Broadcaster HD or Live Gamer HD. External USB2.0 devices are not recommended because of their delay problems. Unless you do very demanding things on the encoding PC, the internal graphics card of the i5 would be enough too.
My streaming PC for example is an i5 2500k, 4GB Ram (2x2) and the Game Broadcaster HD + a Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse. More is not needed in general to get started. If you of course have more money to get a better CPU right away, you could increase the compression of your stream. (Better quality) But 720p with 30/60fps on veryfast or faster is no problem for the i5.
Another option is to not use a capture card, but instead use quicksync/nvenc on the gaming PC, stream at higher bitrate to the encoding PC (using a nginx server) and then doing the final more cpu intensive stream encoding on the encoding PC (2nd PC).
