Question / Help Encoder: Hardware (AMD) vs Software (x264)?

Hey all,

so I just upgraded from OBS Classic to Studio and I'm pretty happy except that I'm a bit lost in settings, especially this one. I don't know what's the difference between both and what's the better one.

For reference I have a 6700k, R9 390 and 16 GB of RAM, if you need more info please tell me.

Final question: Why does it offer as added sources ''audio input capture'' and ''audio output capture''? Doesn't the mic and the system sound automatically go into the stream?

If you're streaming use x264.

And no, mic and system sound aren't automatically in the stream.

For local recording, it doesn't matter since you have the disk space to use quality based bitrate selection. Let the encoder choose the bitrate for you, that way quality per bitrate doesn't matter.
