Encoder error when recording

have been using OBS successfully for some time but suddenly I'm getting this error message about 'an encoder error' every time I try and record..

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing but no effect and OBS records OK on my laptop but is difficult to use there, I need it running on my dual monitor PC.
