Question / Help Elgato Video capture red screen

OBS just displays a red screen. It's a composite capture card. the Elgato software captures it just fine (you can only record with it, not stream)

Set a normal resolution for the elgato, not 80x60

Options are 80x60, 88x72, 720 x480, and 720x576. None of which work

If those are the only options available I suggest re/installing the latest Elgato software from https://www.elgato.com/en/game-capture-hd-support

You may also need to start a preview in OBS, open the properties for your Elgato source, click Configure at the top and make sure the settings are correct.

It isnt the HD capture card, it is a composite analouge to digital capture card (as the video i am trying to capture is from a gamecube, before HDMI's time) so installing the game capture HD drivers wont help at all

I have created a work around though. I have the video playing on the Elgato sotfware in a preview and i simply monitor capture that screen and select the area of the preview. Window capture doesnt seem to work for some reason. I'm sure that the quality would be better if it would just go direct to OBS though. The sound goes through to OBS just fine however.

My bad, not used to seeing Elgato devices other than the HD and HD60. However the red screen symptom is usually caused by the same thing, missing or broken DirectShow drivers. Hmm, the video works fine showing up in the Elgato software though so the drivers are working. I will reinstall them though and let you know how i get on. Thanks for the help so far.

The video showing up fine in the Elgato software means the device is working, it doesn't necessarily mean the device has proper DirectShow drivers or that they're installed and working. Ask all the HDPVR and Roxio people whose capture hardware will work in proprietary software but not in any third-party programs without custom support.

Reinstalling drivers didn't change anything unfortunately

Does it work in any other programs? VLC for example.
