Question / Help Elgato says "No Signal", cannot change settings

I'm having an odd issues with my Elgato where I can use it as a Global Source (through Video Capture) but cannot get it to display anything. It displays instead "No Signal" - "No capture devices found" (yet displays fine with Elgato's Game Capture HD program). I know the issue isn't that Preview is off (as discussed in this thread: obsproject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4149 ). I can get to settings, but once there, all the options to change sources are locked (except checkboxes). Here's what it looks like: ( cloudup.com/cAzxznM6CDF ). I am currently using the 32bit version of OBS since it is the only one that Elgato supports. OBS is as up to date as possible at version v.57b (this also didn't work on an older version of OBS) running on Windows 7 64bit. Any help is much appreciated.

Perhaps you need to configure the crossbar? I'm not entirely sure. Have you never gotten a signal from it?

Unfortunately, the Elgato does not permit any access to the Crossbar settings, as it appears blanked out ( cloudup.com/isOxAUbQ0Vl ). I would need to change source in the Settings pane, but those are also locked. I tried a brief test and, oddly enough, the Elgato accepts HDMI in (@720p, as seen in the locked Settings option for Profile). Even with the source connected though, it does not allow me to change anything. So this does mean it can get a signal, it simply won't let me change it. I have an S-Video/Composite to HDMI converter, so I might use that as a work around in the meantime (if it works). I'll also go open a ticket with Elgato, as the Twitch features from the device itself also don't seem to work.

If you're previewing or streaming while looking at the video capture source properties, then the Open Crossbar box might be disabled. Either make sure it's not encoding, or use Paibox's Crossbar Thing to access the crossbar.

I tried it out - no luck. It doesn't recognize the Elgato capture card (yet it does recognize my knock off EASYcap DC60++). Thanks for trying, but I think this is something to do on Elgato's end. Again, thanks guys.

Unfortunately I'm not entirely sure what's going on, another person recently reported a similar problem, but others who I know are telling me theirs is working okay.. I'm not sure why this is happening. What are you capturing with the elgato?

Hi StarkNebula.

Have you tried clicking on "configure". Does that bring up the Game Capture HD options panel?

@Jim: I capture SD video through the Elgato component to 7-pin mini-DIN cable (connecting the composite end to the Red input - the correct input). The connection typically comes from my GameCube running at 60 FPS. It works fine with the packaged capture software, and in essence, OBS, but will not allow to change the input from HDMI to Composite/S-Video or Component.

Perhaps part of the issue is my computer. I run Windows 7 64-bit through BOOTCAMP on my iMac (Late 2009). I recently did a fresh install for W7 and thus had to re-install things such as .NET and Direct X 10, et cetera, to run most video related programs correctly. I'm not sure if I am missing anything import to get this running correctly. Unfortunately, I never tried it out on the W7 partition before the install, so I am unsure if it is this install or if the issue would have existed on the old partition.

@ElgatoGaming: Yes. Simply clicking it will do nothing - I must have the preview turned on to go into the Configure setting, but once there, all the options are locked (besides the check-boxes). Because of that, it only accepts HDMI inputs, not the SD composite or component input I typically use.

Likewise, I cannot use the Elgato's built in Twitch support on my OS X Mountain Lion disk since it will not link up to my Twitch account; entering the information will only make the login display go away without actually connecting it to Game Capture HD, though it will work with my Google account.

Well this is very odd. I was messing around with my converter and couldn't get audio - so I tried disabling the Elgato's sound for a moment (the audio source within the "Global Sources") to see if it would reset it. Turns out that having done that unlocked all the options inside the "Configure" menu. However, now the Elgato "No Signal" display does not appear - but instead "The device is being used by another application" despite not being so. I then messed around with "Custom Resolution". Now I can't even get it to hook up to OBS anymore, nor can I even look inside "Configure" (for the Elgato device). It's simply a black screen from here on out. It's quite strange.

Bizarre as it is, after I restarted my computer, it works. All the boxes are unlocked and I can use any input I wish. What seems to have freed it was to make the Audio Input Device (inside the devices Properties menu) "(Disable)", then link it to back to "(Use Device Audio)" after having set up the desired input in "Configure". Once that's done once, it stays unlocked. Messing with "Custom Resolution" inside the Properties menu will cause it to black-screen until the PC is rebooted.

This is a very strange fix for the same problem i was having for a week after receiving my Elgato, but it worked exactly the same for me. Thank you so much for posting this. Saved me a lot of headaches.

I know this is an old post, but, I have a few things to say regarding this. (This thread is what I found when I did a Google search.) I was having the same issue as the OP.

I stream a lot on both current and retro consoles (HDMI and composite, respectively.)

When I want to switch between them, and use OBS, I do the following:

Set up the Game Capture HD so everything is running/ready. Then, I'll open the Game Captire HD (64-bit) software. When it loads, I'll choose the setting widget, and adjust the capture tab to the console I'll be using. I'll close it up after. Then, I'll close the Game Capture software and open OBS. I'll use the Preview Stream button, and it will tell me "No Signal". (Because it's set to the component I'm trying to change from.)

I'll then use my Global Source > Properties and then hit the "Configure". If I go in this order, the video options will not be greyed out. I can adjust them to the console, and use OBS to stream!

Could you give me an idea of what's going on with my elgato? For some odd reason it can capture game footage just fine, but it can't stream anything, my PC is powerful and it was fine 4 days ago. Do you know what might be going on?
