Question / Help Elgato HD60 framerate problems

So I've tried capturing with OBS for a while now and it just doesn't work how I expect it...
I am capturing with an HD60 at 1080p60fps from a Wii U and even though OBS tells me I have 0 dropped frames, the framerate would start to drop to like 20 to 30 after 5 seconds, then back to 60, then back down... It's driving me nuts...

I've tried various settings, including capturing at lower resolutions and it just doesn't work. :(

here is a log: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/f447e218c2f86ba8f451

Both. It doesn't matter whether I stream or record, it's the same problem...
I also noticed that the preview window in OBS would drop it's framerate and when watching the captured video file the framerate drops down at the exact moments the OBS video preview dropped when I was recording.

Then it may be the elgato itself (or at least its software) having the problem.

This is one of the limitations of usb 2.0 devices. They have to try to squeeze the signal into 480mbit of bandwidth, and it's not enough.

ok I tried to capture with the Elgato Game Capture software and it has the same problem... but what I don't understand is I recorded with my Elgato months ago and never had a single problem capturing in 1080p60fps but now all of a sudden I do? I don't get it... O_o
