Question / Help Elgato Game Capture HD and Audio Filters?

Hi there,

I don't know whether this is just how I've set things up, but bear with me here. So I'm using the ducking feature afforded to us in the new compressor - this works great, but I run into an issue when needing to delay audio sources in OBS because of my Elgato GCHD - if I only delay the mic to sync with the Elgato, the ducker doesn't duck the Elgato audio at the appropriate time, effectively rendering it useless. If I delay both the mic and the Elgato audio by the same amount, then that obviously works, but now we're out of sync again.

Is there any possible workaround? I'd use VST filters for delay and all, but you can't choose where (pre or post fader) to put them, so that isn't an option.

Log file attached, though I don't think you'll exactly need it.

Thanks! :D

Is there any ability to add delay as a filter item and *not* in the Advanced Audio Panel though? Because if I can do that, in theory all I'd need to do is add a delay filter item to the mic... Right? (Though I still feel that's going to affect when the ducking actually occurs.)

Your 'Video Capture Device' produces video and audio - are they both in sync? And both of them appears in OBS Studio too late, yeah? Thus when you speak in your mic - on recording, the sound of the mic appear first, then video + audio from the 'Video Capture Device' goes in, yeah? And you want to delay the mic - to be in sync with the on screen events when they appear in the recording? More over, you want to duck the audio from the 'Video Capture Device' when you speak in your mic, yeah? Or something different happens to your setup?

Yes. Thankfully both audio and video created by the video capture device are in sync. Both are late. And I do want to delay the mic. All of that is true. The problem isn't getting the sources to sync nicely - it's the behaviour of the ducker itself. If I only delay the mic, the ducker ducks the capture audio late, because the output of the capture device isn't delayed. If I delay the capture device's audio to match the mic, then the ducker aligns with the microphone, but then the video isn't synced correctly.

Can I add delay to the video and subtract a portion of delay from the audio to try and bring things into line?

Delay value?

Edit:
Voxengo Sound Delay VST Plugin, try to add it to the mic source first from all (Sync Offset from Advanced Audio Properties not needed in this case, let's say it moves position of the track, only whole track, during encoding) and set Quick entry in ms of your delay to this VST filter.

When you installing the VST filter, please select "VST for 64-bit host audio applications" from the list of the components and specify the destination directory as C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins (if you running Win x64 and obs64.exe) otherwise OBS Studio unable to find VST plugin installation.
Then you need to add filter VST 2.x Plug-in to your mic under OBS Studio Filters. Select from dropdown list Sound Delay and click Open Plug-in Interface button to adjust filter's settings.

This should work well. Actually, I cannot perform the tests because I don't have mentioned capture devices.

Audio Output Mode of the 'Video Capture Device' you set to WaveOut, but you should know that Audio Monitoring was implemented in OBS Studio, thus Capture audio only + audio monitoring is possible option too.
Just in case, OBS Studio Guides: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/categories/guides-studio.8/

I tried this to cure the 200 ms gap between my Elgato HD 60's 700 ms delayed capture and the max 500 ms attack delay in OBS's ducking filter; using the Advanced Audio Properties delay on the mic wasn't working properly with the ducking, as already described in this thread--in my case, the game audio was still getting lowered 200 ms BEFORE the mic sound came in--but this VST solution worked great! Thanks for posting this! = D
