I know you found a workaround, but if you'd be willing to help Elgato figure out what is going on, that'd be much appreciated!
We have this reporting tool, which will collect logs and info from your system, and bundle it in a .zip file.

Please run the tool, no need for crash or memory dumps, and upload the file to a filesharing site like Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, etc and send me the link so I can download it.
Having this info will help us figure out what is going on. :)
