Specs:
GPU: 3090
CPU: 11900k
32GB RAM
Resolution:
3840x2160(I am NOT attempting to stream in 4k60, this is my own resolution for the game)
My current set up, without OBS running allows me to run Elden Ring at locked 60 FPS with max settings at 4k. If I use an FPS unlocker, as ER is locked to 60, I can exceed 80FPS in most areas of the game.
Problem:
Simply having OBS open without a source selected dips my in-game FPS to 45. To reiterate, a blank canvas, nothing to preview or grab a source from, results in this. Even with an FPS unlocker to allow some overhead, this is the same.
I have tried the myriad of tweaks and settings to lower OBS's performance impact, nothing changes. Lowering my settings in game from max to low does not affect the performance. If I drop my in-game resolution to 1080p, this WILL allow me to play 60fps with OBS open, however, it will not be solid 60 and will dip. But obviously the problem here is that I don't want to play at 1080p.
I had at first thought this another case of a DX12 game hogging all the resources and causing issues with OBS but in practice OBS doesn't miss any frames when it is recording or streaming, OBS causes the game to gimp it's FPS.
I've noticed a few other threads on these forums highlighting similar performance issues where the simple act of OBS being open causes the game to lose half its FPS but no one has any concrete suggestions.
I suppose I'm wondering if anyone with similar set up is experiencing the same thing. Just out of curiosity I tried recording with shadowplay, it affected performance but only slightly in comparison to OBS's 50% FPS tax.
My gut is telling me it's ER being poorly optimised and still patchless for performance issues. But after looking, it seems OBS can and does cause these issues in other games.
I'm starting to think either a dual PC set up is the answer so as to seperate OBS and game, or just buy a PS5 copy to stream.
