Question / Help Editing afterwards - Transcode to what?

Hey guys,

I'm just getting into streaming and I'd like to edit th videos afterwards (I do this in Vegas). For this purpose I also save them on my computer as I'm streaming. However, I've found that x264 is a very difficult codec to work with. As a direct editing codec, it's not performing very well.

So I was wondering: what would you guys suggest? Transcoding to Huffyuv takes a lot of time and space, and I've just spent an hour or so figuring out if frameserving could perhaps do the job, but alas.

So what do you guys suggest?

MP4 files should be compatible with vegas already as long as you make sure you are using AAC and have "Use CFR" in advanced enabled.

Whoops, I hadn't responded to this at all.

Hey Jim. Yeah, MP4 files are compatible, but x264 is a poor codec for editing purposes. What happens in Vegas is that the first couple of minutes are fine, but the further I go the glitchier the video becomes. While x264 is absolutely great for playback, it is way too heavy for editing purposes, hence the transcoding question.

I had already figured something out. It increased the size, but transcoding it to MPEG2 worked wonders. After I was done editing, all I needed to do was switch the source file to the original MP4 and render it :)
