Hi everyone, I'm new to using OBS and I really like it over other broadcasting software out there. I was trying to setup my EasyCap USB 2.0 so I could capture video from old Composite video devices and I was getting a weird problem. I read the FAQ section and saw a part about getting the "Red Box" issue where only the edit section highlights where the video is supposed to be but nothing shows. After a while troubleshooting it, I was about to send in the code that the FAQ instructions says when I finally got it working. I decided to write this post just in case anyone is having the same problem and doesn't know whats going on.
How I fixed it:
1) Installed drivers without the device installed. After a quick reset I plugged in the EasyCap to my PC and it installed normally.
2) Open up OBS and made sure no other program was using the EasyCap. (If something is running it, just close the program that's using the cap card and restart OBS)
3) Added a Video Capture Device on a Scene.
4) On the Device Selection screen, make sure your EasyCap is selected (for me it was "USB2.0 ATV")
5) On the Resolution section, make sure you Select..
-Custom Resolution -> Yes
-Resolution -> 720 x 480
-FPS -> 30
-Use Preferred Output Type -> Yes and select YUY2
6) Click on OK and go into Preview mode and test it.
For me it works with those options I wrote above.... I tried to change the resolution to something lower or higher, but if I do the EasyCap will not show on the preview and will not display a video. Also noticed that there is sometimes a blue or green line that shows on the far right side of the video feed. I don't know if its OBS doing this or it maybe has to do with the capture card trying to display that resolution. I usually crop it with a black image so it doesn't show up on stream.
I hope this helps anyone that has one of these capture cards but couldn't get it working on OBS.
