a lot of times when i preview stream or start stream or even switch to a scene that uses my easycap OBS stops responding and i am unable to even close it without hard resetting the computer... when i use a scene that doesnt use the easycap it works fine but it rarely works with the easycap... it doesnt leave a crash report either

You could try making the easycap a global source so it doesn't have to constantly shutdown and startup on scene changes.

i tried that and it helps a little... but still crashes sometimes... is there any way to fix the issue where it refuses to close?

It really shouldn't be frozen to the point to where you have to restart, usually you can just go into task manager (ctrl-shift-escape), select the task in the detailed list, and end it. Does this happen randomly? What is the specific device model? Can I also have a log file so I can see your computer specs and settings?

it only happens sometimes when i hit preview stream or start streaming and neither ending task nor process will make it close... it is an easycap dc60...

I suppose I should have asked this with the last message -- are you using the drivers for the device from the disk or are you using it plug and play? Can you check for drivers online at all possibly for up-to-date ones?

i am using the ones off the disk and they are up to date... it wont even install the drivers without the disk in

Ok I seem to have found a workaround for the easycap not working... But it crashed again for a different reason (I don't know why) and it still won't let me close it... Even shutting off my computer when this happens gets the computer stuck in an infinite shutdown and I have to do a hard shut down... I have tried reinstalling... Ending task and process and process tree... Other than this issue I LOVE this program

The problem is that the EasyCap drivers are crashing, and there's nothing we can do once that happens, device drivers simply can't be interfaced with when they're no longer there to respond to requests, and any application that tries to utilize it will likely be stuck in a so called criticalsection of the code, where it is interfacing with a vital part of the drivers.

First, you should try to make sure that your EasyCap is indeed authentic. (Didn't they change the name of the device to EzCAP quite a while back because of all the bootlegs named EasyCap?)
