Question / Help dwmapi.dll not found

Hey, I'm attempting to run OBS 32 bit with windows XP. When I downloaded and ran the installer, it gave me an error saying the software wasn't compatible with my version of windows (i'm assuming it was the 64 bit version installer). I couldn't find a download for the installer which specified it was 32 bit, so I just downloaded the 32 bit binaries and attempted to run OBS.exe. That's when i got the error:

"This application has failed to start because dwmapi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I'm not sure if I'm getting that error because I skipped an actual 'installation' and just ran the .exe file, or if I'm actually missing this .dll file.

Thanks for any help in advance.

The installer right now will install whatever version of Windows you have, 32-bit or 64-bit.

As for your issue, Jim will have to answer that one himself.

OBS does not support Windows XP, because it uses DirectX 10 and the last version of DirectX to be released for Windows XP was DirectX 9. Because DX10 seems so pivotal to how OBS works, I don't think you can expect XP support any time soon if ever.

(dwmapi.dll is a library related to the Aero composited desktop. It does not occur in versions of Windows prior to Windows Vista.)

Yea, Windows XP is unfortunately unsupported. Microsoft unfortunately refused to implement directx 10 in a desperate attempt to force customers to buy their new windows versions, and it worked unfortunately, so I have little say in this one. I need those directx 10 features in order to have the app run optimally.
