I started streaming with a dual PC setup many many years ago, took some time off and recently reset up my whole setup and have been losing my mind trying to get my quality back. I could have sworn I would use x264 at medium or fast before and it would definitely push the CPU, but not to the point that it is now. Is it possible my CPU has just gone bad after all these years? I guess my question is 80% CPU usage on an i7 8700 @ 1080p60 using medium preset normal?
Even when I drop it down to veryfast, it's still using around 60% (this is based on Task Manager - inside OBS it only says 6-7%). Once I add in Camera, have a few other apps open (firefox, streamlabs chatbot), this is pushing near 95%.
I created a new Scene Collection with literally just my capture card feed at 1080p, no scaling going on and not even any movement on my screen, just blank desktop. This just doesn't seem normal but I want to see if there's something obvious I'm missing before I drop money on a new CPU.
