Howdy,
I know this is the OBS forums (a software program or THE software program) & this is a hardware capture card question, however I had read several threads on this forums in the course of my digging into this matter which have had very well thought out & helpful responses with hardware issues; so Thank you in advance.
I thought I had a Capture Device narrowed down to either the XCAPTURE-1 or SC-512-L/DVI from micomsoft against the Blackmagic Intensity series & Avermedia (Live Gamer HD or Live Gamer Portable) series, however the BM's won't take 1920x1080p as an input (which is my screen's native resolution) & the Avermedia series seems to have a number of negative comments from people who appear to have good equipment & quality streams (not content necessarily, but quality of signal). On the other hand the Avermedia series is in use by a number of streamers, so there is a wider knowledge base for troubleshooting.
The micomsoft XCAPTURE-1 (and maybe their SC-512-L/VI) do not have on board Transcoding (from what I can tell-- their site is in Japanese)-- these devices seem to be popular with the console gaming folks & it seems to have positive comments from folks who are looking for a little better device. Is onboard Transcoding even an issue?
Some of the things which draw me towards the micomsoft capture options (SC-512-L/DVI & XCAPTURE1USB 3.0 HD) are the ability to capture 1920 x 1080 (24p, 25p, 30p, 50p & 60p) giving me some future proof.
Maybe I'm totally over my head on this portion of my setup...anyway below are my current specs.
My laptop (gaming machine) is the ASUS ROG G750JX:

And my streaming machine is (awaiting purchase pending capture device decision):

I am aware of the 30p cap in place by sites such as twitch (which is where I will be doing most of my streaming for the foreseeable future), however I would like a good capture device & am aware of the better throughput/minuscule delay of PCIe over USB 2.0.
Not being partnered with any streaming service I am also aware my signal won't be scaled for the end user, so pushing it out at 720 30p is where I will most likely be.
I would rather buy one card today instead of one today & another next year.
I don't currently have a console (X-Box, PS3/4 or otherwise), but might in the future...might. I'm more of a MMO RPG player, but games like Destiny look/looked fun.
I'm totally open to recommendations, however without some direction I'm leaning towards the SC-512-L from micomsoft with the XCAPTURE-1 & Avermedia Live Gamer HD coming in second.
If I have left anything out (I'm normally too verbose), please don't hesitate to ask,
David
Again, thank you so much.
