Question / Help Dropping frames with Studio but not the normal OBS

Hi everyone,

I have been using the older OBS for a while now but I decided to try out Studio. I used the exact same settings in Studio as I do in the older version. I tried to stream and just kept dropping frames. Like 100 per minute. Where as in the older version I wouldn't drop any at all in my stream. I know there is an article on dropping frames but I thought this was weird because one doesn't drop frames and one does. I have fairly good internet as well. Just wanted to know if this is a big or anything. Thanks

Your Studio log doesn't seem to be complete since the last line is a "Streaming Start" header.

The other thread that I linked you has a reply from @c3r1c3 that says "Studio is more accurate in it's reporting." So it's possible that OBS Classic actually is dropping frames and not reporting it. Are the output results (videos/streams) noticeably different in quality? Or are you just basing your question around the reported number of dropped frames?

It should be ok, I'll check. The quality seems to be a little bit worse with OBS Studio but my CPU usage is lower with Studio. I think there is a difference because I usually drop none with Original and with Studio I am dropping a good bit. Any settings I should change. My bitrate is fine also.

That log also ends in the same "Streaming Start" header, which means it does not show any information on dropped frames. Have you stopped the stream before you uploaded the log?

What I'm asking is: Is there a visual difference in the output streams or video files between OBS Classic and Studio? Do you notice dropped frames or stuttering in the visual output, or are you going solely off of what OBS Classic and Studio are reporting?

Does OBS Studio report dropped frames while doing a local recording instead of streaming?

I really don't now about the log. I upload it and then finish the stream. And as I said, yes I am noticing Studio is a little worse than Classic.

Dropped frames don't happen in recordings. EVER.
Frame dropping is purely a streaming thing.

You need to end the stream first and then upload the logs.

Learn something new. Encoding isn't my forte. I'd thought given enough system strain during a live recording, the encoder might eventually drop something. I'm mostly just asking exploratory questions until someone more knowledgeable shows up.

12 mbps up, 10000 kbps + for the server i use
I'm not sure then. I've streamed with higher bitrate settings, a slower wireless adapter, and a slower connection (both up upstream and Twitch connection) than what you appear to have, but I've ended up with a lower percentage of dropped frames.

It's possible that you have some network congestion between the endpoints (your computer and Twitch), but that's not a very helpful conclusion. Hopefully someone else here can help with your issue.

It's been a while and I have tried to love studio but it never loved me back. This is how a stream would go for me. Maybe 1:30-2 hr streams, with studio I would drop at least 8000 frames or 5%. Where as with classic 0! Keep in mind these are exact same settings for both. My internet is more than capable to stream with 12mbps upload. I have no clue why this happens. And I also know I'm not the only person this happens to. I really wanted Studio to be my "go to" but I think Classic will be it. If anyone has ideas. Please let me know. Thanks, Sam

How about running the Twitch Bandwidth Test again, but this time with a 64k TCP Window Size and Medium Duration?
