Question / Help Dropping frames intermittently.

When I stream at my buddies house I do it wirelessly. He has Verizon fios 50down and 25up, and I don't drop a single frame.

But when I stream at my house I use a wired connection through a 8 port gigabit switch that runs to my d-link router and I will drop frames and hit 0kbs for about 5-10 seconds about 2-3 times an hour. I have comcast 10 up and 100down.

The bitrate on my obs is 2700, but that should still be fine.

I'm just wondering if there is a reason for this? The Ethernet wire running from the router to the switch in my room is also really old, I think 7 or 8 yrs old.

Also if I try to stream wirelessly I lose connection on obs all the time, that's why I went wired. But now I have this issue, it's not disconnecting me though, oddly. It just starts dropping Kbps until it reaches 0, then stays at 0kbs for 5-10seconds

I went to stream again and the dropped frames were so bad this time, that I gave up, about 3000frames in 10minutes. So I decided to test something. I connected my computer directly to the modem, but I still got the same results. Then I turned my bitrate down to 1600, while connected directly to the modem and still dropped 4% of my frames. I suspect it's my ISP. Maybe comcast is having a bad week or something. Idk. But I just find it weird how sometimes I can stream for 4hours straight and only drop maybe 20 frames at 2500kbs and other days , like today I drop 4-6% of my frames at 1600kbs.

I've done/checked all of those except throttling.
But I can tell u that some days I can't stream PERIOD, like the other day, I turned my bitrate ridiculously low, all the way to 700 and i still managed to drop frames, but a couple days before I was streaming at 2500kbs and only dropped .12% after 3+ hours. And last night I streamed for 4.5hrs at 1600kbs and dropped .32% (1465 frames) which isn't too bad, but it's not great. It's like a game of Russian roulette every time I try to stream.

And I know it says for ISP throttling, turn Down ur bit rate, but for god sakes man, I was at 700kbs and still dropped 3.45% frames. How damn low can I possibly go before it start to look like a colorful smudge on he channel? I can't go much lower before u won't even recognize what game I'm playing. It irritates me because I'm paying for 10mbs upload and I get crap, and I have been doing a lot of research on relations between Comcast customers and twitch and there are hundreds of people with the same complaints I am, so I know it has to be on their end. Also most of those complaints are from people around my area, so that may also have a factor.

I'm just disgruntled because I have almost $2000 in equipment for streaming, and it's becoming worthless to me. I have a burning passion for streaming. If I could I would switch ISP's , but comcast is the ONLY ISP that provides service in my area.

Have you tried streaming to a different server? In my case, I sometimes have poor connections, and start dropping frames, when I switch to a different ingest server, the problems normally clear up.

The closest server is not always the best.
