Question / Help doubt about configuration for local recording

hello, i don't know if my config for local recording is correct or not. I have doubts with the size of the file.

And a second question: if i am recording with 1920x1200 (native resolution) i lost the left and right side of the screen. Is it necessary to strech the image? i don't know if recording with my native resolution is a problem or not.

thank you very much.

What does this mean? Your settings look fine for local recording.

If your monitor's native resolution is 1920x1200 and your base resolution is also 1920x1200 nothing should be cut off. You may need to select your source and press Ctrl+F to fit it to your scene. If you use a base resolution with a different aspect ratio, e.g. 1920x1080 (16:9), then your 1920x1200 (16:10) source won't fit and you'll have black bars on the sides.

thanks for your reply sapiens:

1-size: sometimes I think I am missing something because 45 minuts of recording occupy 1 GB of output for non-shooter game, and I think (I am not an expert) that this game should occupy around 500-600 mb for this type of game, but perhaps I am wrong, I don't know.

2-yes i have lateral bars, but if I select ctrl+f don't happen anything and lateral bars continue appearing.

thanks!

for example (i attach again a new log). I have played now a shooter 52 minutes and the file occupies 2,73GB.

1-with my configuration in OBS (log), is that correct?
2-could you do anything to reduce this size? or is it normal?

thanks again!

I have seen the settings and perhaps this is the problem: with my native resolution (1920x1200) the aspect ratio is not (16:10) is (8:5<--a half), why is a half? perhaps is this the problem?

The local recording settings you're using allow the encoder to use whatever bitrate is necessary to achieve your quality target. High motion, high detail content (FPS games) will require a higher bitrate to look good compared to lower motion, lower detail content. Higher resolutions and frame rates also require a higher bitrate compared to lower resolutions and frame rates.

If you want the output files to be smaller, you can lower the quality (increase your crf= value), resolution, and/or frame rate. You can also recompress it using a tool like Handbrake where real-time encoding isn't necessary.

16:10 and 8:5 are the same aspect ratio.

thanks Sapiens, the last two things then:

1a-could I use for example a crf=30? or is it too high?
1b-what is the maximum value for crf ?

2-resolution: ok 16:10 and 8:5 are both the same, then what do I need to fill all the screen without changing the resolution? is it possible? If I use ctrl+f (fit to screen) nothing happens.

thanks again!

What resolution is the thing you're capturing operating at?

My native resolution is 1920x1200 and I am capturing at the same: 1920x1200. I have tested with 3 different games and the "problem" is the same in the 3 games, lateral bars always appear and If I click "fit to screen" nothing happens.
Perhaps lateral bars with this resolution is normal?

double-click in the picture part of VLC while playing back your recording.

The black bars are not actually part of the video.
