don't see anything other than blue screen when attempting to transfer video from camcorder to computer

I don't see anything other than blue screen when attempting to transfer video from camcorder to computer. Been watching youtube videos and it seems straight forward, but can't make it work where I can see the video I see playing on my camcorder. I appreciate any help and/or suggestions.
